  • Bienvenidos! Welcome to my Coronado Springs Resort Page

Are you ready to explore like Francisco de Coronado did (namesake for CSR)? Okay, lets go. Inspired by the explorers who searched for the fabled Seven Cities of Gold, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort celebrates the character and traditions of the American Southwest and northern Mexico. Before I go any further, there are a couple of things that I would like to share with you. 1) CSR is a convention resort, Disney's first attempt at a moderate convention resort. So yes, you may see guests walking around in business suits and ties, but most of the time they have on polo shirts with their company logos and/or name tags. 2) CSR is a large resort, but that is part of what makes CSR beautiful. So if walking is not for you, then CSR may not be a good choice. 3) CSR has a distinctive Mexican-Spanish architecture that some guests may not care for, especially if you live in an area that features this type of architecture.

My hope is that some or all of this info helps you in your decision/preparation in visiting CSR.

As you drive up to the main entrance of CSR, you arrive under a Spanish-themed porte cochere (translation: a carport) where you are greeted by bellmen, dressed in Mexican attire. They can assist to your every need. From there you enter El Centro, the main building at CSR. One of the first things you'll see is La Fuente de Las Palomas (translation: Fountain of the Doves). This spring-fed fountain is located in the resort's main lobby area. Fountain water emanates from a Spanish-style urn surrounded by colorful tiles. The domed ceiling is filled with hand painted images of white clouds and birds flying through a blue sky. The painting in the dome was painted on canvases off-site and applied in pieces. The doves were then added on site. This beautiful mural makes this the jewel of the entrance way.

El Centro is where you will find many of the spots you may need to use or visit throughout your stay. On one side is Panchito's Gift Shop. One of Walt Disney World's largest gift shops. On the right is guest services and concierge, a one stop location that will give you access to the rest of Walt Disney World, from advanced dining reservation to park tickets and anything else you may need. There are 23 stations to check you in quickly. Cafe Rix, the Pepper Market, Rix Lounge and the Maya Grill are also located here. You will also find public telephones, restrooms, mail boxes, stamps (sold at Panchito's), an ATM machine and a pressed penny machine. Bus stop #1 is just out front and to the left of the main entrance. And yes, guest services will print your boarding passes, if needed, or you can use the business center to access the internet for travel related needs at no charge.

As you walk out the rear entrance of El Centro, you are greeted by tons of breathe-taking scenery. A new lounge has been built in this area called the Laguna Bar. Many new booths and tables have been added in this area as well so you can take your Pepper Market meal "to go" and eat outside or just enjoy a drink from the Laguna Bar while you take in the beauty. CSR is situated on 125-acres and has 1,921 non-smoking rooms and suites. There is no smoking inside of any WDW buildings except for a couple of special lounges separate from any other facility. The rooms are split into three distinct villages that set the stage for the rest of the resort. City-like dwellings or casitas, rustic ranchos, and beach-side cabanas are located around the beautiful 15-acre (25' deep) lake called Lago Dorado (translation: Lake of Gold).

    Casitas
If you head to the left, you will arrive at the Casita village. This area is set among colorful plazas, fountains and palm-shaded courtyards. The casitas (translation: Little Houses) resemble three and four story buildings in a village setting. This area was themed after urban areas of the American Southwestern (such as Santa Fe) and Mexico (such as Monterrey). The casitas are home to many of the convention accommodations. There are 1024 guest rooms (981 guest rooms and 43 suites) in the casita section.

Casitas 1 and 3 are closest to the convention center and El Centro. Parts of Casitas 2, 3 and 4 are closest to the spa, salon, fitness center, guest laundry and quiet pool. The casita quiet pool is WDW's only full size lap pool, great for thsoe guests that like to get their swimming excercise in while on vacation. The spa also has tanning beds and a steam room. CSR is the only moderate resort to offer any of these amenities. Casita 4 is nearest to bus stop #2. Casita 5 is the furthest out from the El Centro but closest to the Dig Site. Hammocks have been recently added to this side of Lago Dorado in front of casita 5 so you may enjoy the beauty of the lake and its gorgeous sunsets.

    Ranchos
As you continue around the path, you will reach the Rancho village. The Ranchos have a more rustic, rural flavor to them. These two and three story villas are themed after the dry, rural desert ranchland regions of the Southwest United States. This area comes complete with an Arroyo (translation: a small stream that tumbles over a rocky streambed). There are 624 guest rooms in this area. The new internal shuttle feature makes the ranchos a much more accessible area.

When entering from the casita side, rancho 6a is the first building on the left. It reminds me of a small western town with hitching posts that you would use to tie up your horse before heading into the saloon. There is also a bit more color used in this building. Some blues and maroons. Ranchos 6b and 7a are next. These are three story buildings. 7a is closest to bus stop #3. The last building is 7b. 7b and parts of 6b are closest to the Dig Site. Rancho 7b has the quiet pool and guest laundry. Ranchos 6a and 7a are the furthest buildings out and probably the quietest. But again, the new internal shuttle system makes them more accessible and desirable.

    Cabanas
As you continue around the Espanade (the walkway that encircles Lago Dorado), it brings you to the cabana village. Located on the northern shore of Lago Dorado, these adobe architecture, two story buildings contain 316 rooms and 3 suites. This area reflects the beauty and serenity of Mexico's coastal regions. More than half the rooms in this village have lake views and make them a popular choice among guests. A sandy shoreline beach, complete with hammocks, compliments this section.

Cabana 8a and 8b are very close to both bus stop #4 and the Dig Site. Cabana 9b is closest to the main building including the Pepper Market and the marina as well as bus stop #1. This is the most sought-after location. Cabanas 9a has the quiet pool and guest laundry for this village.

    THE DIG SITE
In my opinion, the Dig Site is the best area of the resort. You can't help but feel as if you are on a resort somewhere in Mexico. This wonderfully themed area includes a huge pool (120-by-90), mostly 4 ft depth but has a 5 ft depth area, a sand volleyball court, the largest outdoor hot tub on WDW property, the Explorer's Playground, and the Iguana Arcade. The focal point of the resort, the Dig Site's 46 foot tall Mayan pyramid themed as a modern archaeological dig of an ancient lost kingdom. A beautiful waterfall flows down the ceremonial stone steps and into the pool. Nighttime lighting resembles that which you would imagine at a dig site. The Dig Site hours vary depending on the season you visit but typical summer hours are 8:00am to midnight. If you are able to get to the Dig Site early, kids are asked to participate in the opening ceremony. Towels are available poolside at the Dig Site. Lifevests are available poolside. If you have kids, they do a pool opening ceremony everyday at 10:00am. They call all the kids over to sit on the steps of the pyramid and they chant to the water gods to turn on the water.

    SIESTA'S
The pool bar is located at the Dig Site and features fast food such as hot dogs, burgers, salads, nachos, and sandwiches. Beat the heat while enjoying the pool with a frozen margarita, a vast selection of imported and domestic beer and for the younger guest, non-alcoholic beverages are available. Also, refillable mugs can be refilled here. The bar is open from 11am to 7pm and food is available for purchase from 11am to 6pm.

The water slide is 123 ft long, 16 foot high Jaguar waterslide emanating from the back of the pyramid. A jaguar spits tries to get you wet as you shoot under him. There is a "walkway type bridge", which gives you a chance to watch or take photos of the kids (or adults) sliding on the water slide, from above. Yes, life jackets are available at poolside and the slide dumps into a shallow part of the pool. No running or double riders allowed on the slide. Also included at the Dig Site is a kid's pool area that 5 shooting rays of water into the air.

The quiet pools are located in each of the villages: casitas, ranchos, and cabanas. No towels are available at the quiet pools, just use your room towels. The CSR quiet pools are the first on Disney property to use Bromine instead of Chlorine! All the pools at WDW are geared with children in mind, so there are always steps into pools. The Dig Site pool as well as the quiet pools also has wheelchair access.
